The tempest vintage modern is a blend of traditional craftsmanship and state-of-the-art technologies. Combining flowing curves and hard edges, the tempest vintage modern feels smooth and plays even smoother. It draws on the best tones of older guitars, but brings it right up to date by using modern components and building techniques. It’s like a ‘57 Mustang, but with a brand new V8 engine that does 0 to 60 in 2.7 seconds.
The tempest vintage modern is designed and crafted by our luthier and is part of the limited private stock.
The Tech
The tempest vintage modern boasts Bare Knuckle hand wound humbucker and P90 pickups which deliver an awesome tone and amazing versatility.
Neck Pickup
The Nantucket HSP90 is scatter-wound and uses vintage cut Alnico V magnets that deliver a raw and in your face tone which lends itself to a huge range of playing styles.
Bridge Pickup
The True Grit humbucker pickup features Alnico V magnets to produce a fat, rich clean tone and punchy driven tone. The True Grit humbucker makes this guitar super versatile and suitable for hot blues, hard rock, grunge and punk, right through to progressive rock tones.
Three way switching and a push/pull tone pot give you distinct sound options for the ultimate in versatility. The traditional oil paper capacitors and CTS pots ensure a precision audio taper which gives you smooth, accurate response. Crank your guitar up to 10 and the volume swells all the way—no abrupt flattening to choke your playing style.
The Wood
The body and neck are made from hand picked ash and maple hardwoods. They are carefully selected for their tone and resonance, which allows for a surprising amount of sustain.
It’s all about the finish
At Munson Guitars we always prefer to use finishes that leave the grain visible, so you can see the beauty of the wood. The ash body is finished in burnt amber natural stain over red grain, before adding several coats of traditional nitrocellulose that will allow the finish to age gracefully. The maple neck, which includes a dual action truss rod and contrasting dark walnut skunk strip, is protected and enhanced by a proprietary blend of finishing oil which delivers a hard wearing, yet soft satin feel for a super fast action.
